SADOWSKY and Warwick – over the decades, we have viewed them as competitors for the bassist’s attention, even if the renowned American and German bass makers have produced instruments of distinctly different flavours. Now, however, they’ve entered into a marriage of sorts, with Sadowsky appointing Warwick as the exclusive licensed builder and distributor of the Metro and MetroExpress range of instruments..
The Sadowsky NYC Custom Shop will continue to build the flagship NCY range, under the continued leadership of founder Roger Sadowsky, in New York.
“I started in this business as a one-man shop, with the luxury of spending all of my time doing what I love most – crafting instruments. As the demand for my instruments increased, my role morphed beyond my workbench.
“After 40 years of working six days a week running the business, I’m thrilled that this partnership with Warwick will enable me to return my focus to custom-built instruments while introducing our instruments and accessories to more musicians than ever before,” said Sadowsky in his press release.
Sadowsky, who was already aware of Warwick’s success and capabilities, met the Warwick people early this year at the 2019 NAMM Show. He later visited Warwick’s carbon-neutral facility in Markneukirchen, Germany and felt the company to be the appropriate vehicle to make Sadowsky instruments available at wider price points and more markets globally.
Under the agreement, Warwick Gmbh will build and distribute Sadowsky’s Metro and MetroExpress instruments, and also distribute Sadowsky strings and accessories. We believe this could mean the Japan range of Metro basses will be a thing of the past.
The new Metro and MetroExpress models will be announced at the 2020 NAMM Show at the Warwick/Sadowsky booth.
