How to Fix Faulty Key Repairs
A broken key fob can make your life miserable. With the right tools and directions it's easy to fix these issues.

Find any debris that may be under the key that is defective. Breadcrumbs and other pieces of debris may get stuck beneath keys, preventing the keys from being properly pushed in.
Broken Car Keys
Car keys are something we take for granted, until they break or stop working at the most difficult times. When your car keys don't work, it can be a hassle to open your trunk to get groceries, or open your doors to go somewhere, or even start your engine to go to work.
Over time, keys for automobiles may wear out. They can be damaged by being dropped or thrown around and the internal parts could wear out until they don't function correctly anymore. This is a serious problem that will mean you'll be unable use your vehicle unless you have an extra key or your mechanic fixes the issue.

If your key is just broken off within the lock or ignition, you can sometimes remove the remaining portion of the key by using pliers or a wire coated with. Broken Key Fobs
As with all electronic devices, car key fobs can malfunction. When they stop working, they are not difficult to repair. First, you'll need to identify the cause.
The battery is usually the cause when the keyfob ceases to function. The replacement of the battery is the easiest and cheapest solution, and you can do at home.
If cleaning the fob isn't working, you can disassemble it. The circuit board on your fob contains "contact pads" that correspond to each button on the fob. (Lock buttons, trunk buttons etc.) The contact pads feel rubbery and are coated with an electric-conducting film that wears off with time. With a cotton swab, and some rubbing alcohol, you can scrub the contacts of your key fob to get rid of any corrosion stopping them from functioning.
You could also try a pair of tweezers replace the contacts on your key fob if suspect that they are damaged or loose. If you do this it's a good idea to use some silicone on the back of your key fob before inserting the new contacts. Silicone will seal the contacts to keep out water.
Another reason to consider a non-functioning key fob is that it has become un-paired with the vehicle. When you press a key fob button, it transmits a code to the car that tells it what it's trying to do. If the key fob is not paired, it will not recognize the car and not allow you to start the engine.
If you can't get your key fob to re-pair with the vehicle, it's likely to call in a locksmith or dealer technician. They'll have the tools necessary to reprogram the fob and make it work again. You'll likely have to pay for the service, but it's cheaper than buying a brand new key fob.
Unresponsive Keys
If the keyboard key isn't working, it could be a nightmare. First, ensure that the key isn’t blocked by any obstruction. Dust, hair and other particles can accumulate over time and hinder a key's movement or disrupt its circuitry. Try gently removing your key and cleaning underneath it with a rag soaked in rubbing alcohol. This is sometimes all that's required to get your key working again.
If the key does not work after trying these methods it could be due to a software problem. Some keys are mapped to specific actions in games, so if your key isn't performing as you expect it to, make sure you check your game settings to confirm that the key is correctly assigned to a specific action.
You may also want to try reinstalling your keyboard drivers to resolve the issue. Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause your keyboard to stop functioning, so it is important to always keep them up to date whenever possible.
The key could be damaged. There are two circuits that comprise each key switch, and as time passes, they wear down to the point where they cease to register when the key is pressed. If this happens the best choice is to replace the entire keyboard, as it's likely to cease to work properly.
If you've gone through all of these fixes, but the keyboard still doesn't respond then it's time to get your laptop or external keyboard inspected by a professional. It could be that the membrane covering your keyboard is damaged or one of the keys are defective.
You can test the keys with the keyboard tester. The site will inform you whether the keys are registered correctly during the test and, if they do, it's most likely due to a software problem. The remaining fixes can be applied to restore full functionality. You could also utilize an external keyboard until the internal keyboard is repaired or replaced.
Keys that don't work
It's frustrating when keys don't function, but they are usually easy to fix. Most of the time the problem is caused by a piece of grime under the key or it's simply not connected correctly to the keyboard or laptop. If you're unsure you have a problem, wash the keys with canned air and blow out any dust or dirt.
The key could have become unbalanced. This is a different issue that can be fixed with an expert, but it is more likely to require replacement of the key. If you own an electronic key that isn't able to be turned with metal keys the transponder chip might have stopped functioning. You'll need a new key programmed.
Try using a key testing website to determine if your keyboard on your laptop or externally aren't responding. This will allow you to determine if your keyboard is malfunctioning or if software is causing problems.
A switch that isn't functioning properly could be the cause of the key not functioning as is. You can determine whether your keyboard is mechanical by looking under the cap to see whether there is any debris stuck. If you see something, clean it with canned air and then take off the cap. This will allow you replace the hooks which connect the retainer and switch, and hopefully restore functionality to your key.
If the key on your keyboard does not perform the desired function in only one program, then it's likely that the settings for the game's keyboard have mapped the key to perform a different function. Check the settings for your keyboard and then press the key again to see if it's working. If not, it's best to purchase a brand new keyboard and have it installed by a professional. This is especially important if you're playing games that require the use of a lot of keyboards.
