THERE’s a new semi-hollow electric from PRS Guitars – Vela, part of the all-mahogany S2 Series offerings. The S2 Vela Semi-Hollow is a “vintage-inspired guitar with loads of personality and tonal textures.”
The pickguard-loaded electronics feature a PRS Starla pickup in the bridge for a bright, chime-y tone, and the PRS-Designed Type-D Singlecoil in the neck that for that familiar bite. The coil-tap on the tone control allows the bridge pickup to split to single-coils, providing a balanced tone that will cut through the mix effortlessly.
“Anchoring this guitar is the PRS plate-style bridge with two saddles that were designed to compensate for intonation. This bridge harkens back to Paul’s (Reed Smith) early designs and traditional bass plate-style bridges, but is top-loading for easy restringing. Like the bridge found on Paul’s guitar and some Private Stock models, the PRS’ plate-style bridge features brass saddles and an aluminium plate for maximum tonal sustain.”
The 22-fret S2 Vela is a 25-inch scale length guitar, sporting a 10-inch radius, rosewood fretboard with dot inlays and controls for volume and tone (push/pull with a three-way toggle switch).
The S2 Vela is available in Antique White, Black, Frost Blue Metallic, Frost Green Metallic, McCarty Tobacco Sunburst, Vintage Cherry and Walnut finishes.
